There was never a time that I wasn't interested in makeup. Growing up I watched in fascination as my mother applied her makeup. I was intrigued by her perfectly-outlined, bright-red pouty lips. I remember feeling happier on the days my mother would put on her makeup. It not only meant we were going out, opening the day to excitement and possibility, but also because when mom felt prettier and better about herself, her positive energy made for a better day for all. I wasn't totally aware of it yet, but even then, somewhere in my young subconscious mind I knew the truth - that beauty had the power to "lift the soul."
At an early age I got hooked on all the Old Hollywood movie starlets, and like a sponge I absorbed all the glamorous and sexy, flirtatious ways of the Big Screen Goddesses. I loved the glamour, the subtle seductiveness - I loved the power these screen vixens had.
Reading Glamour, Cosmo, Vogue and Harpers religiously, studying every model’s face and reading everything I could on skincare, makeup and beauty, there was no doubt that I was headed in the direction of becoming a professional makeup artist.
After becoming a licensed cosmetician, I freelanced for several years for such prestigious companies as Estee Lauder, Lancome, and Revlon. In the process I've helped a countless number of women look great and feel good about themselves. But as happens to many of us, we get side-tracked, make bad choices, go down a wrong path, and in the end lose ourselves, forgetting the many dreams and goals we once had. After 23 years in a toxic relationship that drained my soul, I was determined to rise up and be victorious. I was emotionally exhausted and spiritually drained, but finally picked myself up and left. I started from scratch and struggled, but was determined to rebuild my life and spirit.
I've always dreamed of having my own business, so I took my small savings and at the age of 48, founded DeeVa Beauty. I wanted to help women feel good about themselves, but I also wanted to bring some 'glamour' back into women's lives. As women, we are so busy juggling work, relationships, kids, school...still fighting for equal pay and we never put ourselves first. Why does it have to be that way? Why can't a woman 'glam' it up now and then and feel comfortable doing so? There is definitely something missing out there today and it's the class, style and glamour that you just don't see anymore. Women no longer get dressed up. They don't wear heels when they go out. They wear flats and jeans...even to a club on a Saturday night. Women are afraid they won't be taken seriously if they show the 'sexy' side of themselves. But why can't a woman look like Carmen Electra and be as smart as Hillary Clinton? Why can't you have a little fun looking like Pamela Anderson and STILL be as powerful as Oprah?
Who says a CEO can't have smokey eyes and pouty lips? I do...every chance I get.
I believe every woman…if they would just admit it, has a little "Pussycat Doll" in them that longs to
come out for a little prowl every once in awhile. There is 'power in beauty' and a woman could and should use it to her advantage, just like all the glamorous icons we've admired and secretly wished we could look like and be like...even for just an evening out or special occasion.
Perhaps you will never make the Academy Awards or walk a red carpet, but you can be the star of your own life. The secret is enhancing your own natural beauty while adding a touch of glamour...and when you do, amazing things will happen. You will stand a little taller, smile more often, and have more confidence. Star-quality confidence.

But I'm not just another makeup artist and DeeVa Beauty isn't just another company seeking profits. It is a platform to look deeper within and find compassion and kindness towards God's helpless, knowing your beauty does not only lie in your looks but in your humanity, ethics and your courage to make a difference. We all want to find an authentic experience, a way to live more passionately...to connect with something.
I want to give my experience, my wisdom and my skills to accomplish something I feel is meaningful and important. My platform is to spread the word, enlighten the people and help save the abused and abandoned animals all over the world. Perhaps it is because I have felt so helpless and lost myself...so alone and shattered in spirit that I so deeply empathize with animals and are particularly drawn to the broken, abandoned and doomed. Now I will STAND UP and SPEAK OUT...not only for myself, but for those that cannot.
The purpose of DeeVa Beauty is to empower women...to help educate them in the art of skincare and makeup. In doing so, I give them a little more confidence, bring a little more fun into their lives, inspire them to embrace their femininity, encourage them to stand tall, feel their 'power,' and enjoy being a woman in the process.
It is also the purpose of DeeVa Beauty to 'give back' and help the abused and abandoned animals with a percentage of the company's profits. The World Society for the Protection of Animals estimates there are approximately 600 million unwanted dogs around the world and 6 million unwanted animals are killed here in the United States each year. Let's help them together. By buying a few products or using my services, you've made a difference to an animal in need.
Tell your friends and family. Forward my Web site to someone. Spread the word. If you are a storeowner, you can carry some of my products or even purchase my services as a gift certificate for your best customers. Together, we can all contribute to bringing awareness and raising money to help the animals.
Remember when you choose DeeVa Beauty, you truly are "Beautiful...inside and out." |
